A Quick and Easy Tip to Relieve Back Pain


According to some sources 8 out of 10 people will at one time or another suffer from back pain. This has being going on for ages and will probably continue to do so.

The two principal causes will usually be:


Due to some injury - which could be sports or accident induced.
Bad Posture - which is normally caused by bad habits.
And of these two bad posture is the winner. When your grandparents or your parents told you to sit up straight or not to slouch, they were not just trying to educate your manners. There were some very sound medical reasons behind their words.

Overtime we create habits. Some can be good and many others can be bad habits. These actions, which can also be ways of thinking or ways of doing something, in time and by repetition become automatic for us. Washing our teeth, once we conquer the habit, becomes something we don't consciously think about. The same thing happens with our posture.

Our physical posture, which is another way of describing how we sit, how we stand and walk, is caused by the way we hold our muscles and our body frame.

Our backs are made up of a series of muscles, bones, ligaments and discs. They are all part of our organism and to work properly they have to work in conjunction. If a muscle is over exerted, it will reflect this over exertion. If pressure is placed on a spinal disc, be it through a heavy weight or because it is being strained at an angle, the pressure will have to be reflected somewhere.

If for example, you sit with your back bent over your desk, which by the way is very typical, you are in fact straining the muscles and your back in general.

Most people for example will have one shoulder higher than the other - this doesn't necessarily mean that it is obvious to the untrained eye, but it does come as a result of bad posture and can be the cause of back pain.

One quick and easy tip to help you relieve your back pain is:


Hold your back up straight, especially when sitting down, but also while standing or walking.
This is the simplest way of correcting your posture and perhaps the most effective. Many times you will read or hear descriptions of how to keep your spine straight, and they are all probably valid.

One very simple way of doing so, is to imagine a soldier on parade and imitate him. Continue to imitate they way he holds his shoulders, his chest, his stomach. Soon you will find it becomes automatic and turns into a habit. Your back pain will become a thing of the past if it has been caused by your posture.

Not all situations involving back pain will be relieved by a good posture alone. It will always help but there are times when additional measures are needed - depending on the cause.

Achieving Relief of Back Pain With Facet Injections

Facet injections are minimally invasive procedures that temporarily relieve pain resulting from an inflammation in a facet joint. Pain associated with a facet joint is not fully understood, but it is believed that it is possible that it stems from one of several causes, injury, arthritis, or degeneration, and it can produce symptoms similar to disc degeneration.

A facet injection’s benefits only last temporarily; from a mere day up to a year as it is a minimal procedure. Facet injections are usually used in conjunction with physical therapy and/or other forms of treatment such as chiropractic spinal manipulation.

Dual purpose

The injection introduces a long-acting corticosteroid, along with a numbing medicine into the painful joint. This is injected either into the joint capsule or potentially alongside the joint period the injection may also serve a diagnostic purpose in addition to a therapeutic pain relieving purpose.

The facet injection blocks pain signals sent to the brain by numbing the nerves in that area, patients that benefit from these injections may be candidates for facet rhizotomy, which is a procedure in which the nerve endings in the affected area are deadened by use of an electric current that destroys the nerves and prevents them from signaling the brain for pain.

Candidates for facet injections are patients suffering from (any or all of these symptoms) neck, lower back, arm combined with leg pain, caused by inflammatory response in the joints. Facet injections are often recommended for patients that did not show improvement to other remedies such as rest, anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy or back braces.

Facet injections may be used for treating such diagnoses as arthritis, spondylosis, spinal stenosis, herniated disc, sciatica, or pain from postoperative period those who are pregnant or have a bleeding problem or an active infection are not candidates for the procedure. In addition, those who have uncontrolled diabetes or high blood pressure should use caution as the procedure may temporarily raise blood sugar levels or blood pressure levels.

Speedy pain relief

Facet injections are given in outpatient setting by either anesthesiologists, radiologists, surgeons, for Xigris, or pain doctors. Relieve Back Pain - Lose Weight


It's a very tough assignment trying to get rid of back pain when you're seriously over weight. I don't want to beat about the bush, even just 30 Lbs over your ideal weight puts you in the high risk category.

Everyone knows that excess fat is one of the leading symptoms of metabolic dysfunction. It's a sure sign of a body that's not in good physical condition. What is rarely mentioned is the impact of obesity on mobility and musculo-skeletal function. It's a serious risk.

Studies show that as soon as you become 30 Lbs (that's around 15 Kg) over your ideal weight, your risk of back pain starts to rise dramatically. There's a buttock loosening exercise I recommend to fix back pain that just can't be done once you get much more than 30 Lbs over weight. As thighs and abdomen become larger you can't move yourself into a position where you can loosen your buttock muscles off. It's a massive dampener on mobility.

The extra weight puts pressure on just about every joint in your body. There are more than 20 of those joints in your back, each one placed under pressure they weren't designed to be under, the lower ones more than the top ones. It's a big cause of low back pain.

Losing 150 Lb most be the physiological equivalent of climbing Mt Everest or sailing single-handed around the world. To keep a long story short, if you've got back pain move heaven and earth to get yourself back closer to your ideal weight. The closer you get to your ideal weight the higher the chance of relieving your back pain.

AEROBIC FITNESS TRAINING PROGRAM

If you're going to lose weight you'll need to embark on an aerobic fitness training program. Start by walking for 40 minutes every day. If you do it twice a day you'll make even more progress.

Here's a couple of secrets to staying motivated.

1. You don't motivate yourself to do something, you do something and then become motivated. When it comes to exercise it means getting out there and doing it.

2. You need a friend or a group with whom to exercise.

STRENGTH TRAINING PROGRAM

If you're going to lose weight you'll also need a good strength training program. Long after a strength training session muscles keep burning up energy. I recommend you go to the gym and get a proper strength training program - three times a week. Your strength training program will also help you to keep your body in better alignment - that's two birds taken care of with the one stone.

Finally if you're on a mission to get back closer to your ideal weight, cut back on fat, flour and sugar - and whatever you do, don't even think of drinking soda pop. It's a paradox I know, but few people got thinner by drinking diet sodas.

How much fat should you expect to lose in a week? If you're diligent, 2 Lbs. It doesn't sound much but in 12 weeks you'll be close to losing a couple of stone. You won't only feel like you're jumping out of your skin, you'll have literally jumped out of your skin! In the meantime stay tuned, highly tuned and if you've got back pain, lose some weight.

How to Relieve Back Pain With Yoga and Meditation


Yoga is a great therapy that offers a host of health benefits: speeding up recovery, healing injured and sore muscles in the back, preventing reoccurrence of injuries, and lowering the risk of disability due to back pain. It stretches and strengthens muscles of the lower back, lessens swelling, and boosts blood flow and prana. That is why yoga is used to help relieve back pain. Since regular yoga practice enhances body mechanics and posture and keeps the spine properly aligned, yoga can help eliminate pain and prevent injury.

If you are going to practice yoga, select a program that is not very intense. Gradually increase the intensity of strengthening and stretching exercises so that you can avoid problems in the spine. After the yoga exercises, you may feel a little pain in the back. To boost your flexibility and to make the spine stronger, it is necessary that you choose the correct yoga exercise for any back issues.

How to Relieve Back Pain - Surgery is Not the Answer


Perhaps the most important fact to know about disc surgery is that you probably don't need it. In a recent survey of people suffering with various forms of back pain, for every survey participant who had disc surgery, three others were told they probably had disc problems requiring surgery but found successful alternatives.

This widespread use of 'ruptured disc' as a diagnosis isn't surprising for two reasons. First, participants with severe, chronic back pain were typically referred by a doctor to an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon, either of whom was more likely than any other practitioner to suspect a ruptured disc or suggest surgery. Second, most survey participants who were told they needed surgery received a tentative diagnosis that was not borne out by diagnostic procedures.

This was the experience of Julia, a UK survey respondent: "I suffered acute back pain after about thirty years of on-and-off lower back pain and sciatica. I had an MRI scan which showed two discs blocking nerve paths. I had sciatica in both legs and was on a morphine-based strong painkiller. My husband had to carry me to the toilet and I couldn't walk for a week. I had to attend the appointment with the surgeon on crutches and was put on the list for a "discectomy".

In the eight months that I waited my doctor referred me to the NHS physio and he gave me Pilates type exercises to do. It took a long time but I am now completely pain-free, having strengthened my "inner-core" muscles.'

There is a growing consensus among medical authorities that no more than 5 per cent of lower back pain sufferers require surgery. But the president of the American Holistic Medical Association is even more optimistic. He believes that fewer than 1 per cent of back sufferers have disc problems requiring surgery.
