Four Tips to Relieve Back Pain

Back pain is something that plagues countless numbers of people across the globe. The back is an important part in a body's internal structure system. It holds us up, aids in walking, and is part of the core of the body that keeps things together. Such an important portion of our body gets a great deal of use. This increased use causes standard wear and tear which in turn flares up frequent back pain. This pain can occur anywhere on the spine-lower back, middle back, upper back, and even the neck. How can this problem be solved?

The first step is REST. Getting plenty of rest can allow the body to heal itself more efficiently and thus reduce pain.

Exercise, especially stretching, can help strengthen your back muscles so that pain will not come from small, everyday actions.

Now, since back pain is so wide-spread, many tools and gadgets have come onto the market to solve this problem. The ones that tend to work best are tried-and-true methods instead of the insane looking toys. TENS units, which are small electrode pads that stimulate the muscles where you place them, are almost like micro-massages on the individual muscles that are creating the most pain. They seem to be the most effective and are used by doctors, physical therapists, and chiropractors for patients who come to them with extreme back pain. They generally cost less than $40 and can provide an extended period of relief.

Also, there is nothing wrong with a good, old fashioned heating pad. Back pain tends to be exacerbated by cold in most cases because the muscles are sore more from overuse than an actual injury. Therefore, resting on a warm heating pad works best for the majority of people as it increases blood circulation to the area, allowing the tightened, over-stressed muscles to relax and thereby ease your pain. The latest release of "heating pads without a cord" or basically packs of reactive chemicals that produce heat and have strong sticky pads so that you can attach it to your back or neck for several hours. If your job requires you to move around a great deal, these will be your life saver so that you can have relief as you go about with your duties and responsibilities. They aren't too expensive if you buy generic brands at local drug stores so that you can stock up and use them as necessary.

With these elements in place-rest, exercise, electrode stimulation, and heat-one can expect the perfect recipe to greatly reduce back pain once he or she determines the "measurements" of each "ingredient" that works best for their individual pain.
